Richard\'s Recommendations: I assure you that if you use Matt\'s
program, it will help not only your game, but your everyday life.
Everyone knows that golf is at least 90% mental, right? Even the top
pros will tell you this. But how often do you get a champion athlete
to come along who will teach you the exact strategy he used to
achieve world champion success? Not often. Most materials on success
and achievement today are written by those who have never really
done it. Well, all that has changed. Matt Furey has put together a
program that I went through last week and it has not only improved
my golf game, but my business, too. Imagine that. Playing better
golf and earning more money. Sounds like a dream life, right? It\'s
not. And Matt will teach you exactly how to do it. He should know by
golly. He\'s a world kung fu champion and a top notch businessman.
In fact, he\'s doing so well he\'s the envy of his peers - a good
position to be in. Better to be envied than pitied, don\'t you
think? Although I rarely if ever recommend products to you - this
one is different. Be sure to get a copy of Matt Furey\'s \"Magn!etic

Richard’s Quick Tips
Addressing The Ball
Let’s talk a little this week about addressing the ball. The first
thing you should do is take good aim. Most golf errors occur before
the swing begins-when you set up and address the ball. To aim your
body correctly, your feet, knees, hips and shoulders must be on a
line parallel to the ball-to-target line. Only then can you swing
effectively and deliver the club face squarely to the back of the
ball. Picture a railroad line first, then place a club on the ground
to set the track on target. Use this to set up, Down the line
visualize standing on one rail of a track with the ball resting on
the other. Your body is not aligned to the target but parallel with
the ball-to-target line. Line the bottom edge of the club face
square to the target.
Three Ideal Ball Positions. There are three ideal ball positions
around which you should build your stance.
1. A driver, the longest club, rests just inside the left instep or
heel to look at the target.
2. A medium No. 5 or 6 iron will look at the target when you place
it midway between the center of your stance and your left heel.
3. A short, highly lofted club puts the ball in the center of your
stance.
Let both shoulders hang down limply to eliminate tension, with the
right arm slightly bent and relaxed. Maintain the hands over the
ball.
Play It The Wrong Way
by Patrick Riley
Some holes are extremely difficult if you don\'t play them as the
course
designer intended. You might, at first think that there is an
advantage to
stay away from the predictable pitfalls, such as fairway bunkers
which are
notoriously placed an everyday-golfer\'s-drive in front of the tee
box. Even
though the troubling fairway bunkers may await you, the alternative
ways,
such as threading your way through a tree line, may be more
problematic,
especially if you find yourself hitting strange and unfamiliar
shots.
Let me tell you about my nemesis hole.
Overall, it\'s not too difficult if played as designed, but when I
make a
mistake and subsequently refuse to play for bogey, a score of nine
can
quickly find its way onto my card.
The hole is a straight-away, 345-yard par four. A wide stream runs
along
the right side of the hole with the land sloped toward a crusty
ten-foot
wide sandy shoreline. If your tee shot hits the sloped land, it\'s
likely to
ricochet into the water, or at best, land in the sand along the
water. It
then requires a near sideways sand shot to get back up to the
fairway, some
ten feet above the water.
Along the left side of the hole are steep hills that, if used
properly, will
guide your tee shot toward the narrow fairway. If used improperly,
these
same hills will capture your ball and make for a very awkward second
shot
with your feet dramatically above the ball (assuming you\'re right
handed).
About 230 yards out from the tee is a lake, the shape of a big
tongue, that
stabs in from the adjacent hole and covers half the width of this
fairway.
Beyond the 230 yard mark, the hole funnels into a narrow strip of
land
between lake and the stream, running an additional 115 yards up to
an
undulating green.
Since my most likely sin is the wood shot that fades to the right, I
won\'t
even take my three-wood off the tee. Near-certain death awaits that
shot.
So I often choose my three-iron and try careening the ball off the
hills on
the left and hopefully leave myself with a flat stance and a shot of
150
yards into the green. That\'s A-position. I\'ve hit my iron about
195 yards
and I\'m thrilled because I can use a nice high seven-iron to get
over the
lake and still have a chance to keep the ball on the green. Did I
mention
that behind the green is a thick row of ball-eating bushes?
So here\'s the myriad of problems and the reason this hole is my
nemesis.
First, if I don\'t hit my tee shot far enough, and as a result I\'ve
got 160
yards or more into the green, I\'m forced to use a longer iron to
get over
the water but the resulting shot\'s low trajectory will cause the
ball to run
off the back of the green into the brambles. If I try a shorter iron
for my
second shot, I must count on landing in the narrow strip between the
lake
and the stream. I might miss (likely) and wind up wet. Instead of
going
for it, I can try laying up to tongue lake so that I can then go
over it
with a loftier iron--playing the course as designed, but playing for
bogey--but it\'s tough from a testosterone point of view to hit a
lay up shot
that could be as short as 50 yards.
Even worse news comes if I spray my tee shot into the water that
parallels
the hole. Now, I\'m hitting three from the beach and even after I
play a
sideways sand shot, I might still have to lay up to tongue lake.
Depending
on my circumstances, I can sometimes get my sand shot close enough
to the
lake to avoid laying up, but that still means an errant shot beyond
or
through the green often results in a penalty to pull the ball from
the
bushes. Sometimes I follow that shot with a chip shot from under the
bushes
that runs through the green and dribbles into the lake.
A couple penalty strokes and a three putt is how I\'m able to put a
nine on
my scorecard for this hole.
The point I\'m trying to make is that often times, the best strategy
to keep
your overall score lower is to take your medicine, take the
embarrassingly-short lay up to the lake, play for bogey, minimize
the
damage, and get yourself back into the track of playing the hole as
it was
designed.

Richard’s Thoughts
Just got back in form several days in Leominster, Ma. where Sensei
Mark Anthony lives. Mark and I shot 4 new video’s which we will be
releasing in the coming months. They are great golf training videos.
Mark did an excellent job of demonstrating the \"how tos\" of
improving your golf score from the 15 game saving shots to, how to
practice to improve your game.
The weather was a little cold and damp, but the leaves are beautiful
up there this time of year, and the people are so nice. It was
tiring, but I had a great time.
We shot the videos at the Monoosnock Country Club, which has a
beautiful manicured course and is very well laid out. Not the
easiest course to play, but is a challenge indeed. The pro there,
John Novak is not only a great golfer, but a heck of a nice fellow.
John tried to apologize for the weather, the wind was blowing pretty
hard, and with the leaves falling from the trees, some of them would
blow across the course and you can see them in the videos. I told
him, look John, these are not Hollywood productions. We are making
informational videos to help people improve there golf score, and
the production does not have to be perfect. We want to help people,
not entertain them. Of course he said that he understands and agreed
with me 100 percent. If any of you are in the Leominster, Ma area, I
would suggest you play the Monoosnock Country Club Course. I am sure
you will enjoy it.
Found out a lot I didn’t know about Sensei Mark Anthony. Not only
can he knock the devil out of a golf ball, but he is an excellent
putting also. But that is not what I am talking about. Got to meet
Marks pretty wife Tracy and his two young sons, Travis (7) and Shawn
(4). He has a real special family, and very nice people.
Still not what I am talking about. Not only is Mark an excellent
golfer and golf instructor, he is a better Martial Artist. You
should see all of the awards, trophies, and plackets he has. A wall
full of them!! Not only does he have three black belts, but Mark is
in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Whow!!! What an Honor!!! Like my
Daddy use to say \"That boy must be tougher than a woodpecker’s
lips\". And I assure you, he is.
A Certified Fitness Instructor, Certified Golf Instructor, Certified
Golf Fitness Instructor, and is now working on his Advanced
Certified Golf Fitness Certification. Quite a man, and a true
scholar and gentleman.
Congratulations Mark. I know that you have worked hard and long to
achieve all of those awards, and I know that you deserve every one
of them.
Had a great trip, made some new friends, but was ready to get home
and get back to work.
Until next week.
Richard
And all of that proved to me why Sensei Mark is such a good golfer
and an excellent teacher. He uses the same principles and techniques
to teach golf, as he does Martial Arts. Mark is very proficient in
both martial arts and golf, and I am proud to call him a friend.
What a man.
I took some snapshots of Mark while I was up there and will get
Terri, my web lady, to put them up on the site in a few days. I will
let you know when they are up.
