Testimonial

I thoroughly recommend the BODY GOLF series of videos. I am
particularly enthused with the ease of learning a proper golf
swing by the use of the three swing drills. You immediately gain
'the feel of a proper golf swing' and a superb tempo within a few
minutes of using the drills. It is the most stress free,
harmonious, and the least physically demanding of all the systems
I have tried to date.
I teach my grandchildren the BODY GOLF swing. You immediately use
the natural, graceful, swing of Bobby Jones with the "oiliness"
of the great Sam Snead's swing. I used to enjoy "gripping it and
ripping it". Now I think of the effortlessness of V.J Singh
and David Toms and my scoring has improved dramatically."

Would you like to learn how I took over 40 strokes off my game
and added 100 yards to my drives in one season? How would you
like to step up to a tee and know that you are going to hit your
target? It doesn't matter how long you've been a slicer, Tao of
Golf will cure your slice for good in only few minutes!

Richard’s Quick Tip:

Balance and Rhythm

This drill is one your should use often. It works on virtually
every part of your swing, the end result being a smooth, balanced
action and better ball striking. Many of us develop quick, jerky
swings as we believe the quicker we swing the club back the
further we will hit the ball. The takeaway is over in a flash
and we are in such a hurry to get back to the ball from the top
of the backswing we lose all of our rhythm, tempo and balance.
This drill will put a stop to that.

Here is how to do it right. Stand with your feet together and hit
a few shots trying to maintain our balance. It will be difficult
at first as you are so used to having your feet further apart but
the more you do it, and the more you slow your swing down, the
easer it becomes. Use no more than an 8-iron to begin with. You
will notice this drill has a dramatic effect on your hip action
too. If you’re a slider you will no longer be able to sway
backwards then forwards as you would inevitably fall over if you
did.

Question for Sensei Mark;

O.k. So, today after work I stopped at the range to work on the
elusive swing. When I tried a few swings with the driver, I
remembered the grip sequence Mark talked about on the tape. I tried placing
it in my left hand that way. I used think I had a good grip with it
more in my fingers, but I had nothing to lose by placing the butt end of
the shaft more across the palm of my hand as well as turning the left
hand over with a couple knuckles still showing. I placed the right
hand opposite the left. As the well known South Eastern prophet would
say, "Shazam!" I tried my old grip and flew it about 225-230. I got
more carry with the new grip, but more importantly, the ball chased
after it hit the ground. I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow so I can play a
few holes after work.

Please ask Mark why it works that way. I used the same swing
and just did the slight grip adjustment. Actually, I thought it would be
more restrictive of the club head with the grip across the left hand
that way. What's the deal?
One added unsolicited comment. For us barrel bodied fellows
(you too, Richard, I've seen your pic on the website}, it helps to make
sure in the address, the upper left across the left breast in front of
the chest. This allows for a much freer swing. It is often too easy
for us to hang the upper left arm to the side of the breast which is
actually quite restrictive in the swing. It also may lead to
sliding nstead of turning.
I love the videos. Now I'm looking for 100 lb. weights to
put on a shaft so I can become a gorilla.

Reply from Mark
Hey...
Good note
I actually laughted out loud.
OK...so why does this grip work?
SImply, it allows you to easily get the clubface square through
the point-of-impact.
In addition, it promotes the smooth turn-over of the wrists for
the maximum clubhead speed and accuracy.
Its as simple as that. Its the reason that all of the big boys on
TV do it.
Problem is...its never explained so us regular folks can
understand it!!!!!

anyway, thanks for the note and keep us posted on your progress

Comments from subscribers:

This is what Gerry had to say about the Power Steps DVD.
It is a dandy. The exercises in the back half are well worth the
price of the video. I may even try to get up enough gumption this
winter to make a steady regimen. I can't believe I am actually thinking
about this. Mark's instruction is so matter-of-fact plain and clear that I
actually enjoy watching it. Can you try to imagine one of the big name
gurus in Bermudas, running shoes, and sweat stains on their shirt? That's
the way the rest of us do it. Maybe that's part of why this works.
Mark is like one of us trying to help us. The videos work. They are
straight to the point, the drills well described and
demonstrated, and no fluff. Great stuff. Thanks.

Richard
Thank you for the great newsletters and tips I receive each week.
I have a question for you. What is the difference in the Full
Swing videos and the Tao of Golf. Thank you for answering my
question.
Roy M.

Richard - Roy, that is a good question and thank you for
answering it. The Body Golf Full Swing video and the Tao of Golf
are basically the same videos. We made the Tao of Golf first,
but had a hard time selling it because of the name. So we then
made the Body Golf Full Swing video, which has basically
everything on it the Tao of Golf has. Manner of a fact, we tell
everyone this in the copy for the Full Swing video. If you would
like to read more about why the Tao of Golf works, visit this
link: http://www.thinkandreachpar.com/tarp/tao-works.htm
Thanks again for the question.

Another testimonial from golfer that Body Golf videos have
helped improve his game.

I purchased the complete body video some time ago and have had a
great deal of success with it. I wear a permanent prosthesis on
my lower right leg below the knee so balance has been a very
difficult achievement for me. Swinging the multiple clubs has
vastly improved my balance and along with that I have learned to
"tuck" the right elbow which has greatly improved my distance
since the amputation. I am the proud achiever of again reaching
bogey golf in my quest to returning to my previous standing of
"shooting in the 80s"
Thanks for all your assistance....

R.M. Thank you Alan for letting us know how the videos have
helped you. Would appreciate everyone’s comments on using the
Body Golf videos.

A bit of golf trivia:

Who said "I'll take a 2-shot penalty, but I refuse to play the
ball where it lies"? (answer is below)

Joe,
I can't afford to buy new balls all the time, so how long do
older balls keep their distance?
Matt

Hi Matt,
One way to tell is to hold a new ball in one hand and another
ball in the other hand. On a smooth sidewalk, hold them as high as you can
and drop them at the same time and compare how high they rebound.
Joe

Joe,
I saw some tees advertised as slice-reducing tees. Are they
legal?
John

Hi John,
In formal competition you could be disqualified if you use a
non-conforming tee. A tee must not have anything that indicates the target line
or influences the flight of the ball. I was playing around with one
of those rubber cylindrical tees that you find in driving range mats. If
you use a shorter one on the course it seems to cause lower ball flight and
loss of distance, but also seems to reduce hooks or slices. I cut a
quarter inch square hole at the top of one side and pointed this notch toward
the target, and I found that the ball flight seems to improve because there
is no friction point in front, but the friction points on the side seem
to reduce the side spin (lesser hooks and slices). However, the notch
indicates the line of play, and the side friction may be influencing the flight
of the ball, reducing sidespin, so for two reasons that would not be
legal in formal competition.
Joe

Richard, Most of my tee shots are hit solidly on the sweet spot
but result in a strong pull left (I am right handed golfer). I believe I am
swinging slightly outside-in. How do I correct this problem?
Tanks, Jim B.

Hi Jim, this is Joe, Richard asked me to answer this one. Many
golfers try to swing down the target line, forgetting the fact that their
bodies are turning at the same time, so the path of the club that starts
down the target line will be pulled to the inside as the body turns. To
correct this, try to swing from the inside outward, that way your body turn
will bring the club square to the ball at impact. How much? If your target line
is 12 o'clock, swing towards 1 o'clock and try to extend your
follow-thru in that direction.
Joe

Question for the Evil Twin:

Jody, what do you think about the Taylor Made R7 driver with the
adjustable weight screws?
Answer: It's a screwy idea, but it might be fun to screw around
with, as long as you don't screw up your swing trying to screw the right
weights into the right screw holes. It gives a whole new meaning when you hit
a bad shot. Instead of saying screw it, you can actually do it.
(note from Joe - Jody, I think you have a screw loose, and it's
not in your driver)

Do Your Part to Make Your Foursome Fun

by

Mac Stevenson

Few things in life are more enjoyable than a golfing foursome
when the players enjoy each other’s company and don’t have any
personality conflicts.

A competitive round of 18 holes of golf among friends can be
great fun and a splendid way to spend four hours of free time
away from other responsibilities. And it can be something else.
Whether it’s a pleasant experience or turns into a round that is
not enjoyable depends on everyone in the foursome being aware of
and responsible for his conduct.

Golf groups aren’t always fun and festive; one or two bad actors
can ruin it for everyone. On the other hand, if all the
participants work at being congenial, a golf foursome can indeed
be a special part of your social life.

There are a number of seemingly insignificant things you can do
that collectively will make you a welcome member of your golf
group:

• Whenever possible, be a few minutes early for your tee time so
the bets and playing partners can be arranged without any
friction.

• If you’ve had a bad morning with your wife or boss or anyone,
leave it behind when you get to the golf course. This one’s
easier said than done sometimes.

• Don’t talk about personal problems on the golf course. Your
fellow golfers are there to have a good time, not to listen while
you whine about your hardships.

• Don’t talk business on the golf course unless it’s invited by
one of the members of your foursome. As an example: If you’re in
the insurance business, refrain from trying to sell a policy to
one of the guys you’re playing with unless he brings it up first.

• Try and help set up fair matches before you tee it up. No one
likes to be hustled and you should try and play matches that
everyone has a fair chance to win.

• A subtle, sharp needle is fun for everyone when it’s used with
discretion and sense. However, don’t let the kidding become
personal and nasty because your golf game isn’t going the way you
want it to. Never kid a fellow player about his job or family;
that happens way too often in many golf groups.

• You’re not out there to try and be Mr. Nice Guy all the time,
but it doesn’t hurt to work a little at making the game enjoyable
for everyone. Be yourself but use a little common sense too.

Here are a few examples of some clever needles that work every
time and don’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

When you’re introducing one of your friends to other golfers, you
can say, “Jack’s got a crackerjack golf game . . . there’s a
surprise in every shot.”

• After bemoaning a poor shot or a putt that didn’t break like it
was supposed to, exclaim dejectedly, “Nobody cares.” That’s
always good for a laugh.

• When one of your foursome hits a drive right beside yours in
the fairway, compliment him effusively on what a beautiful drive
he hit. Eventually it will sink in that you’re really bragging
about your own drive.

These are the type of needles and jokes that add enjoyment to the
game without making anyone mad.

Don’t take yourself too seriously and remember the old adage: “If
you’re going to dish it out, you’re going to have to take it.”

The most important thing is to base your conduct on some good old
common sense and a consideration for your fellow players. If you
know one of your friends is having some personal problems, lay
off the needle.

Having a compatible and fun group to play golf with is a real
blessing and it’s worth working at it to keep it enjoyable for
all involved.

Richard’s Thoughts

Thanks for all the emails and concern for my health because of the recent hurricanes. Where I am we just get a whole lot of rain...a whole lot. I live near a creek, and my back yard was 18 inches deep in water. No real damage as my house is on a hill. The golf courses are very soggy and soft but still playable most of the time.
My thoughts go out to the people of Flordia, which have really had a tought time in the past 6 weeks.
Thanks for your concern, but I am fine.

Here is a couple topics that Sensei Mark teaches in the Body Golf
Series of videos.

Alignment of the Body

The alignment of the body requires that the feet, hips, and
shoulders are parallel to the target line. (The Target Line is a
straight line drawn from the ball to the target). This means that
your body actually aims to the left of the target and not at the
target. To learn this concept stand directly behind your golf
ball on the target line and imagine a straight line from your
golf ball to the hole, this is the target line. In order to keep
the perspective of the target line as you set up to the ball pick
a spot on the ground about 12 inches in front of the ball on the
target line. Once you have found the target line set your body up
so that your feet hips and shoulders are parallel to this target
line. Initially you will feel like you are aiming way too far to
the left…trust it… this is the first step to curing your slice.
When practicing on the driving range it helps to set up a
practice station which allows you to monitor the correct
alignment for every shot. If you have ever watched touring
professionals or a top amateur practice you will notice that they
often lay clubs on the ground. The purpose of this habit is to
make sure that their body is consistently aimed parallel to the
target line and not AT the target which results in aiming to the
right.

The Clubface

The correct aiming of the golf club requires that the leading
edge (the bottom edge of the clubface) of the club forms a 90
degree angle with the target line. Then take a magic marker and
put a X on your ball. Set the ball down so that one of the
lines becomes the target line, the perpendicular line represents
the correct position of the leading edge of the club face. Set
the club down so that the leading edge of the club face matches
the line on your golf ball. If the club points to the left your
club is closed which will result in your shot going to the left
and conversely if the club points to the right your club is open
which will result in your shot going to the right. It takes a
little practice, but if works.

Hope these two tips help you improve your game.

Until next week…good golfing!
