Out on the course the other day, we were playing behind a really rude, lousily, foursome and it was awful. I am sure they knew better, but just did not care. That said I thought I would quickly go thru a few steps of etiquette and what you need to know.

Golf is a game of honor, is easy to cheat at, so every player is on his honor. Golf has its own code of etiquette that everyone should follow and obey. Here are just a few that I try to practice.

When it is your turn to play, be ready. When walking to your ball, make your decision so when you arrive at the ball, you are ready to hit. You don\'t have to hurry, just be ready and make your play.

The first shot on any hole goes to the player with the lowest score on the previous hole. If that hole was tied, then the tee goes to the player with the lowest score on the previous hole.

Make sure those in front of you have cleared out of range before you hit. Make sure everyone in your foursome is behind you when you hit.

Pay attention to the group behind you. If you are holding them up, let them play thru. Some of us play faster than others.

Take care of the course. Repair your divots. Repair any ball marks. Replace any loose grass or turf in the center of the hole or anywhere there is loose grass. Take care of the course.

Rake the sand smooth after you have used the bunkers.

Park your cart away from the greens, tees, and bunkers. Park on the left side of the green, nearest the next tee.

One thing I see a lot is the people in front of me, are crowding around the hole filling in their score cards, after they have finished the hole. After you have finished a hole, move out the way to mark your score card. Mark your card on the way to the next tee.

These are a few things that will make the game better for all of us.

We have two question and answers this week from Sensei Mark Anthony. Remember if you have any questions, just send them to Richard@thinkandreachpar.com

The first one is from Mike:

Your ad sounds good for those people who are already able to hit the ball, but what about those that are still learning to hit it? I just started golfing this year and feel I have a lot to learn. Would you recommend Tao of Golf for a beginner? Or is there another book or video you would recommend?

Please let me know your thoughts! Thank you!

Sensei Marks Reply:

Mike...
This video is PERFECT for you becuase it shows you the absolute necessary fundamentals that you need for a lifetime of better golf.

Just imagine learning something right the first time without having to make a million mistakes along the way.

Tao of Golf takes all of the guessing out of the golf swing for you.

There are beginner drills along with intermediate and advanced drills contained in it that you\'ll be able to use for as long as you want.

Do I suggest Tao of Golf for a beginner? Absolutely!!!
Try it and see. You won\'t be disappointed, I promise!

Thanks
Mark

Question two is from Ken:

I UNDERSTAND THE THOUGHT PROCESS, AND I HAVE YOUR TAPE, BUT I SUFFER THE SAME FLAW (STRAIGHTENING UP AT IMPACT). WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS KEN

Sensei Marks reply:

Ken...
You have the same problem I had a few years ago.
Before I learned how to swing correctly, I thought that I had to \"feel\" every shot.
The way that this turned out for me was that I would squeeze the club at impact.

I was brought up as a baseball player and thought that I had to feel a golf swing the same way you feel a baseball hit...nice and \"solid.\"

By squeezing the club at impact, it would actually slow down and cause a vicious slice. It drove me quite nuts...

Why am I telling this story? Because you\'re doing the same thing in effect. You\'re anticipating impact and tightening up your body as you swing through.

In order to swing smoothly, you MUST swing as if the ball is not there ALL OF THE TIME!!

Do the \"No Peeks\" exercise that\'s in the tape. What you need to do is go from a results-oriented mind set to a make-a-good-swing mindset and forget about the darn ball and trying to \"hit\" it.
Remember, \"Preoccupation with ball flight is the root of all swing flaws.\"

I was playing golf with my brother-in-law on Monday and you could see this almost every time he wanted to make a long shot. He would start out by making two textbook practice swings. When he stepped up to the ball, the textbook swing disappeared like a sock in the laundry.

He was so uptight about how and where the ball was going to go, he let that anxiety effect his good swing.

Go to the practice range and commit a whole bucket of balls WITHOUT thinking or WORRYING where the ball goes or how it flies. Do a whole bucket of \"No Peeks\" swings.

Golf is not about watching the ball fly, its about making it to your target in the fewest amount of strokes possible, right?

Thanks
Sensei Mark Anthony
