I recently purchased the Tao of Golf from you and found the various
exercises very useful and have helped in a developing and improving
my swing.
One aspect I am confused about, and mentioned in the newsletter sent
18 April 2002, is addressing the ball with it in the centre of the
stance. I can understand the reason as explained in the video as
applied to iron play and fairway woods. This accords with most swing
teachings in encouraging the ball being struck first and then the
turf.
However, with the driver and the 3-wood off the tee, I have
always believed that the ball should be struck by the clubface at
the bottom the swing-arc or preferably slightly after as it is
rising up. For this to happen the ball should be opposite the left
heel at address (for right handers)
I would appreciate your observations.

HI Brian..
Thanks for writing.
I\'ll try to answer your questions...
Firstly, I teach to have the ball in the center of the stance for
most folks because its the most fool-proof way to swing. There is
much more room for error when you do it this way and its much safer.
The average amateur does not generate the swing speed that the Tour
Heroes do, so it is MUCH easier to swing easy and hit it straight
with the ball in the center.
There\'s a couple reasons...
1. When you put the ball off the front foot, you have to swing REAL
HARD and slide slightly through impact in order to line up your body
to hit it straight.
2. To time this PERFECTLY, you need to practice for hours every week
and its advisable to have your personal coach watching over you so
you don\'t do anything wrong on a permanent basis.
Also, if you are swinging really hard so as to generate 100mph swing
speed or better, you had better know where the ball is going or you
may as well roll the dice every time you swing.
That is the main reason that I teach that you should center the ball
on all of your clubs. Its just easier for the \"regular guy\" to hit
the ball in a straight line when swinging within him or herself.
I hope that clears it up for you..
Thanks again and please write back. Sensei Mark Anthony
Thank you Sensei Mark. We appreciate you taking your time answer our
questions.
Sensei Mark has written us a short article on how to improve our
short game. I will get it in the next newsletter, later this week.
Thank you and until next time, good golfing.
