Testimonial

I ordered the AJ Golf tapes and the Body Golf 3 school in a box.
After looking at all of them, I put the AJ Golf tapes back in
their box and returned them. There is no comparison in videos.
Yours are
easy to understand and have a lot of content. Those AJ tapes are
nothing. Thanks for helping me with my game and keep up the good
work. A very satisfied customer, and a better golfer, thanks to
you..

Richard’s Quick Tip:

The Swing For The Simple Bunker Shot

Bring the clubhead away on the line of your feet. Allow your
wrists to hinge but don’t let your arms and wrists go stiff. Come
down aggressively into the sand an inch or two behind the ball
and come out of it a few inches in front of where he ball was
lying. The right hand should be the dominant force in the swing.

Comments from subscribers:

HI, I am 64 years old and have just taken up the game of golf. I
purchased the AJ Golf series and was really disappointed. It was
geared to the golfer who has played before. Being a beginner,
would your body golf be a help to me or not? I know you are in
business to sell stuff but I would appreciate your honest
opinion. I have also had a total hip replacement and am not that
flexible. Thanks, Don

Nice to hear from you Don. Yes, I am sure the Body Golf videos
will help you…if you view them and apply the techniques. The
Body Golf system is the most simplified golf swing training
method anywhere. The lesson are laid out in such a fashion that
the student has no problems learning and retaining the
information. The hardest part of golf is to consistently make
contact. The rest is knowing how a correct swing feels. Once
you know the rules of the swing, the rest is easy.
Good luck to you.
Richard

Richard, this is not being written with you specifically in mind.
I thought it might be a way to get the information to others or
your readers that have the same problem as my own. If you want
to print it in your newsletter, that is my intention.

Richard, I have been contacting you and any number of other golf
people, professionals and other people who I thought might be
able to make a difference in solving our problem. The problem
is that golf 'stores', really any type of business who supplies
golf needs to golfers have no idea that left-handed people, other
than Phil Mickelson, Steve Fleisch, and a few others, actually
play golf and try to buy golf equipment. Most of us do not have
the resources of the above-mentioned people that enables them to
have their equipment custom-made.

They all just give me the blank look and stammer around and then
come up with the same story, "Yes, I know, my brother (or son or
husband or wife or homeless guy or uncle or best friend or my
ex-lover or my neighbor or on and on . . . .) are left-handed
and we just can't get stuff for them.

Well, I just found the source that should make it possible for me
to never enter another Sporting Goods Store, Sporting Goods
Department of another type of store, Pro-Shop (except to pay for
my tee time), or half-assed Golf Store. The source: eBay. I
just found the mother lode. Look under left-handed golf clubs
and left-handed golf drivers, etc, and you will find a virtual
plethora of them.

I just bouight three drivers at wonderful prices, and will be
able to take them to the driving range and thoroughly try them
out. Then I can keep the one or two that I want to keep and use,
and then sell any others that do not suit me, where else but on
eBay.

I have bought and sold on eBay a great number of times but did
not really think of it until recently, for equipment for us
non-existant sportsmen.

So long, all you bigoted sports suppliers. I will not miss you
in the slightest.

Jim Berbrich

You Make the Call:

A golfer marks the ball on the green and flips it to
the caddie, who misses it and the ball rolls into a
water hazard and cannot be found. What is the ruling?
A. The lost ball rule applies, because you cannot use
a second ball on any hole.
B. The ball was already marked, so it is OK to use a
different ball.
(answer is below)

Joe,
Are balls retrieved from water hazards as good as new
balls?
Will

Hi Will,
I read somewhere that testing showed the “pond” balls
travel only a few yards less than new balls on the
average. What these tests did not say is how many
yards does any ball lose after it has been used for
awhile, even without being in a pond. My guess is that
the more a ball is used, the less distance it will
travel anyway, pond or no pond. If you have a lot of
money, and you want every single yard possible, use
new balls. If you are like most people who want to
save money, you might choose to use “experienced”
balls that you find for free and live with the loss of
a few yards, and save some new balls for longest drive
contests.
Joe

Joe,
I wonder if u can help me with this problem. My shots
are going much towards the left when I am using the
6,7 irons. If I become too conscious, keep my eyes on
the ball etc, I end up slicing the ball much to the
right. The phenomena is more pronounced during tee
off. Interestingly it does not happen with 5 or 4
iron. Can u help me out. I am a starter with about 6
months into the game.
Regards and a happy 2005.
Major Harpreet

Hello Major,
Also a happy 2005 to you. Are you a Major in the Army
or Air Force? Jody is still laughing because a Major
is playing military golf (left-right-left-right).
Apologies. He is too easily amused, so I will have to
throw a bucket of cold water on him. First of all it
is not uncommon for anyone to have problems with one
or more clubs behaving differently than the other
clubs because there is no such thing as a perfectly
matched set. This is why serious golfers are having
the lie angles of their irons adjusted either more
upright or more flat. More upright reduces a slice,
more flat reduces a hook. In your case, I think you
might be coming across the ball at impact from the
outside in. If you do that while your clubface is
square, you will tend to hit a pulled shot with no
slice. If the clubface is slightly open, your shot
will tend to start off as a pull and then slice. This
is why you must try to swing from the inside out,
because your body turn will bring the club back to
square at impact.
Joe

Joe,
I have a question do they make a small headed driver
in TI ?
Harv

Hi Harv,
Titanium drivers became popular years ago before jumbo
clubheads became the standard. Today I don’t think
they make small headed drivers anymore, but you can
surely get one at a second hand store or any pro shop
that takes trade-ins. In my neck of the woods,
northern Illinois, we have shops called Second Swing
Golf and Play It Again Sports (look up their websites)
where there are plenty of small headed drivers to
choose from, including Titanium. You may also find
these at rummage sales, flea markets, garage sales, or
the classified ads. Of course you have to define how
many cc’s are “small headed” by your standards. My
guess for you is under 300cc. However, I am curious
why you want a smaller head when the larger heads are
more forgiving – fewer toe shots, fewer heel shots,
fewer popups, fewer grounders. Let me know.
Joe

Answer to You Make The Call (above): A is officially
correct, due to the one-ball rule.

Jody, my Evil Twin, what do you think of the one-ball
rule?
Answer: Here is another case where golf becomes more
a game of legalisms rather than a game of skill.
Do you really think that someone can really benefit
that much by switching balls between shots? Gee, I
think I will use a distance ball for drives and switch
to a high spin ball for approach shots, a floating
ball for water holes, a wiffle ball for short flop
shots over a bunker to a tight pin, and then for
putting I will use a ball with a built-in gyroscope to
reduce the breaks and a built-in magnet to attract it
to the cup. Plllllllease!

New Year’s Resolution--Eliminate Slow Play

Time for a New Year’s Resolution: Have more consideration for
your fellow golfers and eliminate the worst instances of slow
play.

The biggest problem confronting the great game of golf is slow
play. And it’s getting worse.

Beginners should begin on the driving range. Unfortunately, when
many of them decide to start playing, they go out and buy some
clubs and balls and shoes and head for the first tee. Then they
proceed to ruin the day for everyone who has to play behind them.

Golf needs beginners. However, before starting to play, they
should take some lessons from a competent professional or a
golfing friend who knows what he’s talking about. After learning
the basics of grip, stance, and swing, beginners should plan to
spend some time on the driving range before they play. In
addition, videos are excellent training aids and should be used
extensively.

Besides the beginners, the golfers--who declare they paid their
money and they’ll play as slow as they want and the hell with
everyone else--are also a threat to our great game. They’re
jerks.

No one minds waiting occasionally on a busy day, but not five-ten
minutes on every tee and sometimes on every shot. It ruins the
day. What’s really sad is that one bad group will spoil the round
for everyone who is unfortunate enough to be behind them. If you
know the offending players, it doesn’t hurt to tell them
diplomatically that they are wrecking the day for everyone.

There are a number of ways that golfers of all skill levels can
help to keep the play moving briskly on the golf course:

• Play ready golf. When you get to the tee and you’re ready, go
ahead and tee off--regardless of who has honors. And out on the
fairway, hit your approach to the green whether you’re out or not
if your playing companion isn’t prepared to hit.

• Don’t write down your score on the green after you finish
putting and other players are waiting to approach. Do it on the
next tee.

• Use some common sense as to where you leave your bag or cart
while putting. Way too many golfers have to walk clear back
across the green to get their equipment after they putt. This
shows a lack of thought or just plain stupidity.

* Take ONE practice swing, not two or three or four--just
one. And if someone in your group is taking more than one, tell
him or her about it.
• When someone is considerate enough to let you play
through--move it. Don’t stand over a putt like you’re in the U.S.
Open while the people who let you go through are waiting. And
hurry to the next tee and get out of their way.

• And here’s a big one: Don’t look very long for a lost ball. Get
together on the first tee and agree in advance to drop a ball
with no penalty if everyone knows about where the lost ball
disappeared and the game isn’t too serious. Nothing is more
maddening than waiting on a bunch of dummies who spend 10-15
minutes looking for a golf ball.

• Fivesomes shouldn’t be allowed. They are barred on most, but
not all, courses. A fast fivesome is no problem, but if you get
behind one with slow players in it, your round of golf is ruined.

All clubs should have a marshal, preferably a guy who is retired
from the NFL. Unfortunately, not all golf courses can afford such
a management person. But a courteous and strict marshal can make
play much more enjoyable for everyone but the jerks.

All amateur golfers should recognize--while watching golf on
TV--that the PGA tournaments and the golf we play have little in
common. No one should copy the tiresome rituals that the pros go
through before they hit their shots. Unfortunately, a lot of
young players do just that. And some of the older ones too.

If everyone would follow this one rule on the golf course, it
would be an even greater game than it is: Treat the other fellow
the same way you would like to be treated if you were in his
situation.

Richard’s Thoughts

Why Can’t We Live Christmas All The Time?

I often wonder why people can’t keep the meaning of Christmas all
year long. Why doesn’t that loving giving spirit stay all year
long?

From my letter last week I received some of the nicest, warmest
messages from some of you that I could have ever dreamed of.
Thank you very much for your thoughts and kindness. It was very
warm, and I appreciate it.

I see people giving to others and opening their hearts during the
holiday season and going out of their way to help families in
need, and who would not normally have much during this time.
What about the rest of the year? Why can’t we keep this
generosity all year long?

One thing that sticks in my heart is that this love is needed
everyday, all year round. Why are people’s hearts and wallets so
much larger during this time of the year?

All of the help does not have to be with money. And we could all
stand to help make this world a better place to live. With so
much turmoil and confusion, wouldn’t more peace and love be
great? I have been there, and war is not fun for anyone! It
makes everyone’s lives miserable for years and generations to
come. Why is it necessary?

Here are a few ways I think we can help others:

A smile goes a long way and a nice gesture even farther. Holding
the door open for someone, or just saying hello can make
someone’s day. Have patience with people. Take your time and be
nice to them.

Smile, say hello, and be polite. A little love goes a long way.

Would peace is a big desire, that can be accomplished, but it
needs to start much closer to home. It has to start right there
in the center of your chest…yes…in your heart.

Coming from the South, I was taught to smile and say “morning,
afternoon, evening, yes sir, no sir, yes ma’m, no ma’m…how are
you today?” Not just people that you know, but everyone that you
see. Years ago, (and not as many cars as it is now), just
riding down the road, you would wave at everyone, whether you
knew them or not. You spoke and were courteous. To everyone,
not just a few.

Now that the New Year is upon us, all of us begin to take stock
of our lives. The New Year brings with it the promise of a clean
slate and we make resolutions for something better, something
brighter and something more than we accomplished in the past
year.

What will 2005 bring for you? Will you work on something that
you are passionate about? Will you enjoy the loving support of a
partner of spouse? Will you be living your life with fearless
joy?

Most of us make resolutions that we do not keep and can just
recycle the ones from years past, just change the date. But the
answer may be to create a life of purpose, and to let go of the
things that will not serve you in your new life and to add the
things that will enhance you in the future.

If your life purpose includes honoring yourself and others, bad
habits are not going to fit in with that. This will be your
higher reason for changing your habits. It’s still not going to
be easy, but when you see it in the context so something larger,
it gives you the leverage you need to stay the course.

I hope and wish you the Very Best and Most Prosperous New Years
Ever!!!! And I also wish you a lower handicap, and if you need
some help with that, I will be willing to help you with that
also!

Until next week…good golfing!
